In the tapestry of human experience, there lies a hidden thread, a subtle yet pervasive force that shapes lives and destinies: colorism. The insidious discrimination based on skin tone has cast a long shadow over societies worldwide, creating a hierarchy of value and worthiness among people of the same race or ethnic group.

The Call for Healing

Colorism is not merely a cosmetic issue; it is a deeply rooted social disease that perpetuates racism, inequality, and trauma. Its victims endure psychological distress, reduced opportunities, and even violence. The time has come to break the silence and confront this shadow pandemic.

The Colorism Healing Writing Contest 2024 is a call to action, inviting writers of all backgrounds to share their voices and experiences through the power of words.

The Contest

The contest welcomes submissions in three categories:

Stories

Fiction or non-fiction narratives that explore the personal and societal impact of colorism.

Essays

Thoughtful essays that analyze the causes, consequences, and potential solutions to colorism.

Poems

Lyrical expressions that capture the emotions, experiences, and aspirations related to colorism.

Eligibility

The contest is open to all writers worldwide, regardless of age, race, or background.

Prizes

The winning submissions will be awarded monetary prizes and recognition through publication and promotion.

  • First Prize: $1,000 and publication in a prestigious literary journal
  • Second Prize: $500 and publication in an online anthology
  • Third Prize: $250 and a featured reading at a virtual event
  • Honorable Mentions: Publication in an online anthology and social media features

  • Original and unpublished
