Robespierre's Life

In 1792, Robespierre was elected to the National Convention. He was a member of the Committee of Public Safety, the body that was responsible for overseeing the war effort. Robespierre played a key role in the Reign of Terror, the period of mass executions that took place during the Revolution.

The Reign of Terror

The Reign of Terror began in September 1793. During this period, over 40,000 people were executed, including King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Robespierre was a leading figure in the Reign of Terror, and he was responsible for many of the executions.

The Reign of Terror ended in July 1794, when Robespierre was overthrown and executed.

Robespierre's Legacy

Robespierre was a controversial figure, and his legacy is still debated today. Some historians view him as a hero of the French Revolution, while others view him as a tyrant.

Robespierre's legacy is complex. He was a brilliant orator and a passionate advocate for democracy and social justice. However, he was also responsible for the deaths of thousands of people.
